How to Find a Covid-19 Conscious Rental on Martha’s Vineyard

Now that the dust has begun to settle… you want to head to Martha’s Vineyard for the week and enjoy some time with your family. How do you tell if the owner is conscious of Covid-19 considerations?

Here are our top five ways to tell:

1. A clear acknowledgment of the concern in their listing – Easily #1 reason. If people aren’t coming right out and saying that they are doing their best to provide a safe place to retreat, they probably aren’t. 92 Main Street is a perfect example. By sticking their neck out there they are creating accountability and will likely meet your expectations for what is needed.

2. A commercial cleaning before each turnover – The days of a quick 1-hour cleaning where they change the sheets and pillowcases only are over. Couch covers need to be changed or the couch needs to be steam cleaned. All handles and light switches need to be sanitized. Linens need to be sanitized. Spices need to be wiped down.

3. No throw blankets, pillows, or items that can’t be washed – Anything that can’t be washed or thoroughly cleaned shouldn’t be out. Stow the extra décor, convert your guidebook to a one-page flyer, and put away those throw pillows.

4. Lysol and cleaning supplies on-site – This is a sure sign someone is focused on your trip, not their bottom line.

5. Extra mid-stay cleanings available – If this is an option consider inquiring more. The owners may require you to pay more for the mid-trip cleaning, but having the option means they are trying to be helpful and Covid conscious.

Summer 2020 will surely be different than those of the past, but it doesn’t need to be surrounded by fear and anxiety. We all could use a little break from this spring and what better way to do so than on a beach vacation to Martha’s Vineyard.
